MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the new AMP. You heard it here first.
Microsoft, Anthropic, and other AI companies are actively hoping to replace traditional web browsers and usage of websites with an AI-first protocol making every domain provider nothing more than an endpoint for chatbots— centralized "agentic" services.
It's billed as "open" but it's not an open standard nor developed by stakeholders in a consortium. It's Anthropic. And other Big Tech companies are jumping on it.
